Visitors to Taipei’s landmark Liberty Square were met with a magnificent sight this past November. Six thousand Falun Gong practitioners, who had come to Taipei for the annual Falun Gong Cultivation Experience Conference, were peacefully sitting together to form the pattern of the Falun Gong emblem and Chinese written characters.
The Falun pattern measured about 1,000 square meters. The “卍” pattern in the middle is an ancient symbol from Buddhism, and the yin-yang pattern is a symbol from the Daoist School. The Falun thus symbolizes the combination of both the Buddhist and Daoist Schools. The Chinese characters under the Falun symbol stand for “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” the central teaching of Falun Gong.
The striking symbols and characters, displayed on such a large scale, attracted the attention of tourists from Mainland China visiting Taiwan. In the Mainland Falun Gong is persecuted viciously by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Some of the tourists were already aware of Falun Gong and the true nature of the persecution carried out by the CCP.
Twenty-eight-year-old Mr. Shi and his father, both from China, were visiting Liberty Square on Saturday. They were deeply moved by the pattern formation.
“I like the freedom in Taiwan,” Mr. Shi said. “We have been brainwashed [in China] by the Communist Party since elementary school. Many people’s minds are solidified, and they don’t dare to open their eyes and see the real world. Falun Gong practitioners are offering them a chance.
“I’ve watched some documentaries made by Falun Gong practitioners. Both my father and I appreciate Falun Gong’s teachings. It would be great if they [Falun Gong practitioners] could freely practice in China. If they spread the teaching of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, then China will have hope.”
“It is hard to save China under the Communist Party’s governing. Only if the Party is disintegrated, will China have real freedom,” Mr. Shi affirmed.
“Of course, both I and my father have already quit the Party via the Tuidang Center,” he said, smiling.
“This is an annual event,” Mr. Wu added. “We often get feedback from mainland Chinese tourists, who are touched and surprised by this scene. Many of them say that they want to know more about Falun Gong. Some said that they have been deceived by the Communist Party. Several Chinese government officials have even thanked us for bringing the truth to them.”

This year, the pattern formation attracted many tourists who stopped, took pictures, and asked questions.
Local businesswoman Ms. Guo came to the park where and saw the character formation activity. “We all know that Falun Gong is good. The whole world knows,” said Ms. Guo. “But the Chinese government is persecuting them.” She pointed at the pattern and said, “This is what mainland China needs. Chinese tourists need to see this. It is important for them to know that Falun Gong is good.”
