A group of retired veteran soldiers, including myself, who served on the same warship and were from the same city recently met at a restaurant for dinner.
Among them, there was the captain of the warship, the secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) committee, deputy captain, chief engineer officer, master sergeant, and other retired soldiers. They were all in their 60’s or 70’s. We shared a lot of camaraderie, so we didn’t settle in until after having a lengthy chat with one another.
After the food was served, the secretary of the CCP committee suddenly said to me: “After you began to practice Falun Gong, your health recovered. We have all seen that and felt happy for you as well. However, when you tried to persuade others to withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations, I felt you went too far.”
Then he added: “The Party gives us a decent retirement income, and our medical expenses are also covered; So we live a care-free life. We hope that we can enjoy our retirement and also don’t want to see China in chaos. Therefore, we neither understand what you do, nor agree with you.”
I took a look at them. Some of them were nodding their heads and some were shaking them. The master sergeant said: “I don’t want to listen to anyone. Who cares?” I slowly stood up and asked the captain: “What is your opinion?” He replied, “Let’s hear what you have to say.”
I said to the secretary of the CCP calmly: “I truly admire your straightforward character, and I don’t want to force my opinion on anyone. I think we need to look harder to discuss the truth of the matter. As you often said to us before, “We should obey the truth regardless, correct?” Everyone nodded in agreement.
Then I continued: “For the past few decades, the Party has abused enormous sums of taxpayers’ assets to carry out illegal movements. Therefore, the Party has never dared to make its accounting transparent. It goes against the law by itself. That’s my first opinion.”
After that, I noticed that no one wanted to say anything in response, but rather waited for me to continue: “There is nothing wrong for one to want financial security, or to hope for a stable environment. However, for a wonderful wish like this, it will for sure be destroyed by the CCP. Why is that? I’ll offer you the following evidence:
“Former president Jiang Zemin, with his heavy influence, has ruled China for over 20 years. This caused a tide of tremendous corruption. As a result, there is little morality existing in China today. Now the new president Xi wants to stop the corruption and change the Party for the better. But this is just a daydream!
“Next,” I reminded them, “Jiang and his supporters have been creating incidents to disturb social stability and undermine the country. His faction is involved in a head-to-head war with Xi.”
I then mentioned, “The CCP officials, along with their political and juridical committees, as well as the 610 Office have been using police to suppress ordinary citizens. They illegally arrest, torture, kidnap or even sentence people, such as innocent farmers, workers, students, human rights advocates, and Falun Gong practitioners.”
“The CCP officials and the representatives from the “Two Congresses” (National People’s Congress and National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference), I continued, have moved their families, as well as their personal assets overseas.”
I concluded by saying: “Now there have been more than 230 million people who have withdrawn from the Party and its affiliated organizations by Tuidang movement. So the CCP’s collapse is imminent.
Therefore, I believe that for people to pursue a peaceful and quiet life by counting on the CCP is not realistic. So what should we do then?
I’d like to suggest something for everyone: You should all seriously considering withdrawing your memberships from the Party, Young Pioneers and Youth League right away. This is the only way you can ensure your safety.”
After they listened to what I said, they discussed things quietly. Then the chief engineer officer and a few retired soldiers said:“We agree with you, we’ll quit the Party!” Then I looked at the secretary of the CCP committee and the captain. The secretary nodded his head and said:“I agree with what you have said. Captain, how about we go with the flow and do it?” The captain was waiting for him to say that and said right away: “I will quit, for sure!”
That left only the master sergeant, who laughed but didn’t say anything. I said to him: “Can you be indifferent to the evil practice of organ harvesting? How can you be indifferent to innocent citizens who were tortured or poisoned to death? One needs to have some conscience and sense of justice, right?”
He thought for a little while, then looked up and said: “I know what’s on TV is all fake. Though I don’t know much about Falun Gong, nor want to understand it. However, I feel what you said makes sense. I will listen to you and quit the Party!”
