Venice, Italy – Last week, Italy, a group of Chinese men has interfered with a street activity by practitioners of Falun Gong, a meditation practice which is persecuted in China as of 1999.
The practitioners were near a booth, talking to pedestrians about the Human Rights violations they are still subjected to in China, after 15 years of persecution.
The scene started to warm up when at 1:30 p.m local time, two Chinese men on they thirties came near the booth, speaking aggressively against the practitioners and damaging their materials, tearing the leaflets that were on the table, throwing them at the floor and then stomping them. They then pulled down the banners of the spiritual discipline and damaged the aluminum-made structure of a roll-up banner.
One of the two Chinese had a baby in his arms, about two years old. At first a practitioner of Falun Gong tried to approach him to give him informations. But the reaction was full of anger. Uselessly the practitioners and the bystanders tried to keep him quiet. He threw the practitioner???s music amplifier that was sending out Falun Gong???s music and the mp3 reader that was connected to it at the ground, starting to kick them.
Soon the bystanders expressed solidarity with the practitioners, as both local people and tourists helped them to collect their materials from the ground and tried to calm down the Chinese.
An Italian tourist shouted in English to the Chinese man with the baby, ??Leave the baby down, I can’t touch you because you have the baby, leave the baby down….[You do it] just because they’re against violence… you’re coward.?.
The episode lasted about 30 minutes during which the man has never put down the baby, using him as a protective shield, most probably in order to accuse people of violence to minors, should someone try to struggle with him. It’s a common technique to avoid responsibility in case of a scuffle. In fact, another Chinese with a baby had verbally assaulted practitioners of Falun Gong during a similar activity in the same place, two weeks ago.
At the arrival of both Carabinieri Italian military police and Police some Chinese who remained on the side during the attack run away.
The police showed complete solidarity with Falun Gong practitioners and recognized the irrationality of the aggression.
After the police left the scene, the Chinese went back and said: “See you tomorrow, I’ll come back for sure.”
Falun Dafa is a peaceful spiritual practice that teaches people to live accordingly to the principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. It has spread widely in China during the 90s, reaching 70 million of practitioners. In 1999 the Chinese Communist Party unleashed a violent persecution, which continues today.
Since then practitioners in China have been deprived of the freedom to practice, are incarcerated in psychiatric hospitals and labor camps, where they are tortured, sometimes to death. To date 3,777 deaths have been confirmed as a result of the persecution. However, international sources estimate the figure might be much higher.
In March, the Human Rights Commission of the Italian Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling for the end of organ harvesting in China, a gruesome reality where victim are especially Falun Gong practitioners. Military organizations, together with the Chinese healthcare system collaborate in the multi-millionaire organs business, using living bodies of Falun Gong as a reservoir from which to draw organs for transplant market.
