Zhang Huidong

Zhang Huidong, who graduated from Dalian Maritime University, is an outstanding enterprise management personnel. He has served as a personnel officer and treasurer in Dalian Heavy Industry Group, as well as the deputy general manager of one property group. In mainland China, he never gave up his belief of ‘Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance’, therefore, he was persecuted to the point of a lifelong disability and loss of family during the 15 years of CCP’s persecution against Falun Gong. In June 2014, he fled from mainland China after many twists and turns, coming to the US, where he told his story.
During the summer season in the capital of US, Washington, Falun Gong practitioners are telling the truth about CCP’s persecution against Falun Gong, to the coming and going visitors in front of the National Air and Space Museum. Among these practitioners, there’s one young Falun Gong practitioner who came from mainland China, his name is Zhang Huidong. He has been practicing Falun Gong for 16 years now.
Huidong: “I began my cultivation of Falun Dafa in May 1998 due to my mother Chen Lihua’s introduction. I had a surgery in 1997, and I became immunocompromised after that surgery. All epidemics, such as pinkeye and flu, I would suffer them all. After I began practicing in May 1998, my bodily condition changed immediately after just one month.”
Zhang Huidong:” In 2000, during the persecution, my superior at the time, told me that it’s all about the fact I practice Falun Gong. If I do not practice Falun Gong, I would be the outstanding employee of my working unit for the year. He gave me this conclusion. This shows my own physical and mental changes had also benefited my working unit and people around me a great deal.”
On July 20, 1999, former CCP leader Jiang Zemin launched the illegal persecution against Falun Gong. On that day, some Dalian Falun Gong practitioners went to the municipal government to have a peaceful petition, but were arrested by the authorities. On the next day, practitioners continued the petition to the municipal government.
Zhang Huidong: “We were petitioning for the illegal arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. At this time, they suddenly started to assault Falun Gong practitioners. They targeted the young and during the peaceful protest, were pulled out from the group. They used violence on me in broad daylight, hitting me with a stick. My clothes were badly torn during the assault. I even witnessed an elderly gentleman, assaulted and beaten to the ground.”
In July 2000, Zhang Huidong was illegally abducted and detained in the brainwashing centre in an addiction treatment centre of Dalian Municipal Judicial Bureau. Here he suffered numerous forms of torture. After he was released, his working unit, Dalian Heavy Industry Group, assigned special personnel to monitor and report on his whereabouts under the commands of 610 Office.”
Zhang Huidong:” On the afternoon of Feb. 21, 2001, I was at work. All of sudden, three policemen entered my office around 3 p.m, asking whether I am Zhang Huidong. I told them that I am, and they directly handcuffed me and took me away. I was really shocked and wondered what was wrong. They took me to the police station. After we arrived at Heshijiao police station, I was taken to a room, and a policeman named Bai Tao immediately started to beat me with punches and kicks without saying anything. After the assault, he asked met where my laptop was, who I usually contact, what do I report and what articles I’d sent to Minghui. I did not say anything, and he beat me again. Then another policeman came in and beat me also. After the assault, I was locked up in the room. Later I learned that many other Falun Gong practitioners were also being arrested and locked up in other rooms on that day.”
At midnight (same day), Zhang Huidong escaped from Heishijiao police station while the police slept. Since then he didn’t return home. During that period, he continued to make materials to tell the truth of Falun Gong being persecuted to the general public.
Zhang Huidong: “On the morning of Aug 7, 2001, I was preparing material in my rented house, when suddenly someone knocked on the door. A group of policemen broke into my room as I opened the door. At that time, I wanted to protect the material, so I did not allow them to touch any of it. Those policemen slipped a halter round my neck, made from a rope they found, and pulled so tight I passed out. When I woke up, I was already lying on the floor of Xiuyue Street police station of the Zhongshan Bureau of Dalian Municipal Public Security.”
After he came to, Zhang Huidong found his face and arms had been injured and handcuffed. Throughout the whole process, police never showed him any search warrant, arrest warrant, nor any written documents. All actions were illegally carried out.
Zhang Huidong: “They thought as (I) am an important person, and they have arrested an important person, I should be interrogated by people at the Deputy Secretary level. The interrogation lasted until 4 a.m. the next day. There were six policemen. After the interrogation, I was locked in the interrogation room. At 5 a.m. in the morning, I unscrewed the handcuffs, and other policemen found me as I prepared to leave the Bureau. I had to jump down from the bathroom on the fifth floor.”
When Zhang Huidong woke up from the coma, he was in the Dalian Municipal Friendship Hospital. Police were afraid to take responsibility, so they just dropped the bloodied Zhang Huidong at the emergency room door and ran away after informing his father.
Zhang Huidong: “The reason is very simple, they learned from the doctor that this man was disabled. At the time, my third, fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae were shattered, as were the lateral malleolus bones of both feet. The left heel bone was also shattered, and brow and nasal bones fractured. I broke four teeth, and I was covered with blood. In addition, due to the police assault, my right eye was seriously swollen. They and the doctor all thought that this man would disabled, and on crutches for the rest of his life, based on his appearance.”
In a situation of serious physical injuries and lifelong disability, Zhang Huidong got over all of this with a firm belief in Falun Dafa and his indomitable will.
Zhang Huidong: “After I was released at the end of Sep 2001, I started to practice the five exercises in this broken state. I practiced all exercises. As a result, my body has been greatly improved. I recovered very fast and almost fully healed by 2002, I could begin to walk.”
Although his body magically recovered and he was able to walk, Zhang Huidong’s feet had not yet fully recovered.
Because of the CCP’s cruel persecution, Zhang Huidong’s parents both passed away. On Jun 2014, Zhang Huidong escaped from mainland China and after many twists and turns arrived in Washington, DC. Here, he can practice Falun Gong freely, and he really treasures the opportunity to tell the truth to Chinese tourists.
Zhang Huidong: “There is a good condition to tell the truth to Chinese people, tell (them) the serious persecution that is happening in China. It is not only a persecution against Falun Gong, but all Chinese people, because they do not know the truth. In US, I can reveal the persecution. I feel this is really valuable.”
After 15 years of persecution, unjust imprisonment and wandering, Zhang Huidong always has a sincere and generous smile on his face. Right now he wants to wake up more Chinese people, let them truly understand the evilness of the CCP, and quit it to start a better future.

How Zimbabwe Biometric ID Scheme and China’s AI Aspirations Threw a Wrench into the 2018 Election

<!--%20Zimbabwe%20Case%20Study%20-%20DigitalID%20-%20The%20Engine%20Room.pdf">Zimbabwe. In July 2018, Zimbabweans went to the polls for the first time since the ousting of long-time (now deceased) leader Robert Mugabe, who had held power for nearly 30 years. This may have been promising from an outsider's perspective, but the heavily contested elections did not inspire confidence in Zimbabwean voters.  Weeks after polling day, when results had not yet been released, hundreds of people took to the streets of the capital Harare to protest the delays, with many fearing that the Zimbabwean Electoral Commission (ZEC) had rigged the results in favor of then-Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa, who took office shortly after Mugabe’s ouster. But vicious party politics were not the only reason Zimbabweans distrusted the results of this particular election. In the months...
